Simion Moguț, one of the 11 players fielded by Andrei Sepci in the 1965 Romanian Cup final against Dinamo Pitești, has passed away. Fondly known as “Moțul”, he made crucial saves in that match held at the “Republicii” Stadium in Bucharest, playing a significant role in securing our club’s first and only trophy in history.

Born on April 18, 1933, in Zlatna, Simion Moguț arrived at Universitatea Cluj in 1959 when he was 26 years old. Prior to joining Cluj-Napoca, he had played for Chimica Târnăveni, Dinamo Câmpina, Dinamo București, and Dinamo Târgu-Jiu. During his seven seasons with the “students”, Moguț participated in a total of 131 matches wearing the “U” emblem on his chest.

“May he rest in peace!”, expressed “U” Cluj.
