Tips and Regulations for a Safe Mountain Hike during Hot Days
In these scorching days, tourists heading to the mountains can enjoy some relief from the heat. The temperatures are bearable for a few hours of outdoor activities. However, there are several mandatory rules that must be followed when in the mountains, starting from the equipment we use to the trails we choose to tackle, says the head of the Hunedoara Mountain Rescue Public Service, Ovidiu Bodean, as reported by Radio Timișoara per Rador.
“Consider the length of the trail and each person’s physical condition. The equipment is crucial because, during this period, there could be alternating sun, rain, so pay attention to the weather forecast, and last but not least, if there are groups, inform us. If there are large groups in a certain area, we can deploy our personnel there to make them feel safer. Also, we gladly provide information about the trails,” says Ovidiu Bodean.
For those less accustomed to exertion, the mountain rescuers recommend caution in selecting routes. Depending on each person’s physical condition, there are easy trails that can be explored near the cabins in the resorts.
“There are short trails around the resorts or tourist areas, valley trails, such as those near the resorts, along the Râușor Valley, for example, on Vălăreasca, up to the shepherds’ hut. Besides Straja, there are plenty of easy trails, in Parâng up to the peak of Parângu Mic, which is not a very challenging route. Individuals should assess their capabilities. If they find the trail too difficult or beyond their abilities, they can turn back. They should have enough time to return during the day, so they don’t get caught in the dark and get lost or, if they don’t know the trail, ask the Mountain Rescue or the dispatch center,” advises Ovidiu Bodean.
Mountain rescuers are on the trails these days. In the Straja, Parâng, and Râușor resorts in Hunedoara county, as well as in the main tourist attractions in the area, emergency services are already in place.
