The Creation of a New Ministry in Russia for Youth Policy and Patriotic Education

In the realm of Russian politics, discussions are underway regarding the establishment of a new ministry focused on youth policy and patriotic education. Sources close to the presidential administration revealed to Vedomosti newspaper that this initiative may come to fruition following the re-inauguration of Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 7. The independent publication The Moscow Times reported on this development.

According to one of the sources, the idea gained traction due to the lack of a dedicated body responsible for patriotic education. The new ministry could potentially be formed based on Rosmolodezh, the Federal Agency for Youth. “The concept emerged after recognizing the absence of a singular entity overseeing patriotic education,” the insider shared.

The establishment of this new ministry would necessitate a restructuring of the Ministry of Education. The source elaborated that some of the current responsibilities of the Ministry of Education would be redistributed, with a focus on patriotic education being transferred to the prospective new ministry. In essence, the aim is to bolster Rosmolodezh as affirmed by another Vedomosti source.

The same source noted that Rosmolodezh has effectively carried out its prescribed duties, prompting considerations for elevating the agency to a ministerial status and placing it directly under the Kremlin’s jurisdiction, thereby assigning it additional functions.

The outcome of these deliberations will hinge upon the stances of high-ranking officials, the source further disclosed.

Established in 2008, Rosmolodezh is tasked with organizing events centered around civic-patriotic education, career guidance for children and young adults, support for talented youth, operation of specialized camps and tourist centers, as well as catering to the tourism and recreation needs of children and adolescents.
