Rheinmetall inaugurates factory in Mediaș to produce cutting-edge NATO infantry fighting vehicles

Rheinmetall’s Acquisition and Official Launch of Production in Mediaș
In April 2024, the Competition Council approved Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH’s acquisition of Automecanica Mediaş SRL and its subsidiary, Atelierele Speciale Autocamioane Mediaş SRL. Less than a month later, Rheinmetall Automecanica Mediaș officially announced the commencement of its operations.
Headquartered in Dusseldorf, Germany, Rheinmetall is renowned for producing advanced military hardware, including the cannon for Leopard 2 tanks, used by several European armies and set for delivery to Ukraine. The company also manufactures the Panzerhaubitze 2000, an artillery piece already in service with the Ukrainian army.
Rheinmetall unveiled the military vehicles to be produced in Romania, including the armored Lynx carrier and HX trucks. The Lynx, a highly versatile combat vehicle, is considered the most utilized tank in the NATO infantry fleet, offering unparalleled crew protection combined with formidable firepower.
Equipped with a modern turret, a 35mm automatic gun, and a 1,100-horsepower engine, the Lynx can reach speeds up to 70 km/h across various terrains, ensuring agility and efficiency in combat scenarios.
