Oradea celebrates 105 years since the Romanian Army entered the city
Passionate to return here to celebrate 105 years since the Romanian Army entered Oradea and liberated it from tyranny.
It is our duty to always remember the past, the sacrifice, determination, and struggle of our ancestors.
On April 20, 1919, soldiers lead by General Traian Moșoiu were welcomed by local authorities and the residents of Oradea with joy, marking the escape from Bolshevik terror and the confidence in a future of freedom and unity. Today, 105 years later, we are all celebrating freedom, democracy, and tolerance. We must always remember the past, the sacrifice, determination, and struggle of our predecessors, thanks to whom we have a united and strong Romania today. Names like Aurel Lazăr, Coriolan Pop, Rimler Karoly, Iustin Ardelean, Jánossy Gyula, and General Traian Moșoiu are emblematic figures that have left a mark on history through their vision and courageous deeds.
At the same time, we must ask ourselves what we leave behind, what future generations will say about our actions a century from now.
Patriotism means learning from the past and acting in the present.
In these complicated times, where Europe’s security is being tested, and war has returned to the old continent, it is appropriate to speak again and more forcefully about patriotism. Not in slogans, not for populist purposes, but authentically. Patriotism means learning from the past and acting in the present, thinking about our children, their future, and the future of Romania.
Today’s military parade has a personal significance for me. The army has always served the people. The army is one of the fundamental institutions in defending the “citadel,” democracy, and freedom. I believe that a strong army, in the service of citizens, is the guarantee of peace.
As a military person, I know what devotion to the nation means, the oath of allegiance, and the spirit of sacrifice. When you put on the military uniform, you do so with responsibility, knowing that defending your country is above your own life.
As a politician, I know that we must continue to serve the people. We are in a crucial year for Romania, for Europe, and for the fate of democracy worldwide. We must rise to the occasion and meet people’s expectations.
Dear residents of Bihor, You have every reason to be proud. You have a role model city, a successful administration, and a prosperous county. You have built a strong community and are an example that it is possible in Romania: to come up with a different development model – the liberal model – based on investments, managerial capacity, and the ability to attract European funds.
Oradea city is now famous abroad for the restoration of heritage buildings and is a champion of successful projects. Bihor County Hospital now has the only fully robotized laboratory in a state hospital in Romania and will build the largest infectious disease and pneumology hospital in the country – an investment of 594 million lei from EU funds. Last year, you achieved another premiere – the most complex work in decades, with seven road passages aimed at improving traffic flow in the civic center. You have a record budget for 2024, and the new complex for dual education “Campus Oradea” is next.

Oradea is connected to A3, the Transylvania Motorway, through the recently opened express road. Bihor has taken on the construction of the Oradea-Arad express road and is the first county in Romania equipped with a real cargo terminal. The extension of the passenger terminal and the runway at Oradea Airport are in progress, allowing for the landing of larger aircraft. All of these create the conditions to attract new investors and grow existing businesses in Oradea and Bihor. All these accomplishments were possible through mutual trust and partnership between an efficient liberal administration, a dynamic private environment, and citizens.
