Obama Raps Eminem at Detroit Rally, Supporting Kamala Harris

Former US President Barack Obama surprised the crowd at a Detroit rally for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris by rapping along to Eminem’s 2002 hit “Lose Yourself.” The event, held on Wednesday, saw the Grammy-winning rapper introduce Obama to the stage after a speech on the importance of free speech.

“I’ve been to a lot of rallies, so I usually don’t get nervous,” Obama quipped, adding, “But Eminem kind of got me,” before launching into a rap performance of “Lose Yourself,” the theme song from the rapper’s semi-autobiographical film “8 Mile.”

“I thought Eminem was gonna come out. I was ready,” Obama, 63, joked before adding, “I like Eminem.”

Eminem’s presence at the rally was “for a few important reasons,” he explained to the crowd gathered before next month’s 2024 presidential election. “As most of you know, the city of Detroit, the entire state of Michigan means a lot to me,” the 52-year-old rapper said.

“And with this election coming up, the spotlight is on us more than ever, and I believe it’s important to use your voice. So, I encourage everybody to get out and vote, please,” he added.

“I also believe that people shouldn’t be afraid to express their opinions and I don’t think anyone wants America to be a place where people are worried about retaliation, about what happens if you share your opinion,” the singer continued.

“I believe Vice President Harris represents a future for this country where these liberties and many others will be protected,” he stated.

Harris’s campaign has seen a wave of celebrity endorsements, with Bruce Springsteen set to appear at a rally in Atlanta on Thursday. Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts campaigned for Harris in Georgia earlier this month.

The rally was part of a concerted effort by the Harris campaign to mobilize support in Michigan, a state that is considered crucial to the upcoming election. The state has a history of being a key swing state in presidential elections, and both Democrats and Republicans are vying for its electoral votes.

Harris’s campaign has been focusing on issues such as healthcare, education, and the economy in an attempt to connect with voters in Michigan. Her campaign has also highlighted the importance of voting rights, an issue that is of particular concern in the state.

The rally in Detroit was a sign of the growing importance of the state in the 2024 presidential election. Both Democrats and Republicans are expected to pour resources into Michigan in the coming months, as they seek to win over voters in a state that could be decisive in the outcome of the election.

The presence of Eminem, a prominent figure in Detroit’s music scene, at the rally was a testament to the state’s cultural significance and the campaign’s efforts to connect with voters on a local level.

The election is shaping up to be a tight race, and the outcome in states like Michigan could be pivotal in determining the next president of the United States.

Obama’s appearance at the rally is a further indication of the growing involvement of high-profile Democrats in the 2024 presidential election. His support for Harris is likely to bolster her campaign and boost her chances of winning the election.

The rally in Detroit was a significant event in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election. It showcased the growing support for Harris and the Democrats in Michigan, a state that could play a crucial role in determining the next president of the United States.
