The surprising budget of Oțelul Galați revealed by Cristi Munteanu
Oțelul Galați finds itself in a peculiar situation as despite having a modest budget, the team continues to achieve remarkable results. Moldova has qualified for the final of the Romanian Cup, performing well in the SuperLiga play-offs, and consistently surprising on the field. Cristi Munteanu disclosed the team’s budget, which is unexpectedly low, under the guidance of Dorinel Munteanu.
“We are the team with the smallest budget in Romania, just over 2 million euros. We hope that after the team’s results, more influential people from the private sector will come. We welcome them eagerly because the city deserves it; we are the best ambassador of this city and county.”
“We had 4 days in Craiova, two matches in the cup and the championship, and we had to return home. We played, returned home, stayed a day because we couldn’t afford to stay there for 4 days. [..]”
“You have to limit yourself to what you have, and Dorinel did the best. There have been delays, that’s Romanian football, but the boys are a serious group, of great character who understood and solved the problems.”
“It’s tough when the budget makes a difference in football, that’s clear. If we had a budget of 5-6 million euros, we would be having a different conversation now,” stated Cristi Munteanu exclusively about Galați’s financial issues.
Oțelul’s Unexpected Success Exceeds Expectations
Cristi Munteanu revealed that the club’s expectations in Galați were surpassed considering the circumstances. As a newly-promoted team with a budget below the SuperLiga average, Oțelul promises and delivers performances to the locals, being a strong brand for the city.
“I don’t want to be hypocritical, clearly not (referring to expecting qualification for the Romanian Cup final). That’s all we had to do, treat the competition very seriously. We treated the competition the same as the championship, and God brought us here.”
“A very good opponent, who reached here on merit (referring to Corvinul Hunedoara). They eliminated strong teams from our championship. Both us and them qualified on merit. Oțelul reaches the Cup final after 20 years. Ironically, 20 years ago, the Cup final was against Dinamo, and I was in goal. In goal and the MVP of the match.”
“The trophy missing from our showcase because Oțelul Galați also has the Romanian Super Cup and the title. The Romanian Cup is not there, and we all want to complete the club’s trophy cabinet with this trophy.”
“We had a group with FCSB and Dinamo, we eliminated Universitatea Craiova after a very tough match, where we deservedly won in the end. In Galați, there is a lot of work, seriousness, and our coach makes the difference every game,” added the president of Oțelul Galați live on FANATIK SUPERLIGA.
