Jens Stoltenberg: No Indication of Intentional Attack Found After Romania’s Discovery of New Drone Parts near Plauru

NATO dispels intentional attack claims on Romania following the discovery of new fragments from a Russian drone near the community of Plauru in Tulcea County on Saturday, September 9, according to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The NATO chief confirmed on his official Twitter account that he discussed the incident with President Klaus Iohannis.

“I spoke to Klaus Iohannis about the Russian attacks on the Ukrainian ports on the Danube and the drone pieces found in Romania. There is no indication of an intentional attack on NATO, but the strikes are destabilizing,” Stoltenberg conveyed.

In conclusion, the NATO Secretary General expressed the Alliance’s solidarity with Romania and commended the US decision to deploy additional F-16 aircraft to strengthen NATO’s air policing mission in Romania.

Additionally, new fragments from another drone that crashed in Romania were discovered on Saturday, September 9, by the Romanian Naval Forces, as announced in a statement by the Ministry of National Defense. According to the Ministry, these fragments were found in a different area from where other pieces, potentially from a Russian drone, were previously found on September 5.

President Klaus Iohannis promptly reacted, declaring that the incident “is an absolutely unacceptable violation of Romania’s sovereign airspace.”
