He criticized Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu’s recent comment as he jokingly stated that it was shameful to be called Moldovan. Simion highlighted that the head of the Government is most likely Romanian.
In his statement, Simion emphasized, “Recently, our Prime Minister made a joke saying that being Moldovan is shameful, and we should not refer to him as Moldovan. We all laughed. No one accused the Prime Minister of being a racist. We all know it was a joke. He is not Moldovan; he is probably Romanian,” said George Simion during the conference of conservatives and sovereigntists at the Palace of Parliament, where also Alveda King, Martin Luther King’s niece, was present, according to news.ro.
He further added, “We love our brothers and sisters of Roma ethnicity, our Hungarian friends, our Turkish and Greek compatriots, and all those whose hearts beat for Romania. We should all be proud of our origins. There is no shame in admitting who you truly are.”
Simion also remarked that in Romania, “you can still joke without anyone being offended or accused of not being politically correct.” Therefore, he encouraged, “Please, joke about any subject; you will not be persecuted.”
