Fraud and Negligence Claims at the “Sf. Pantelimon” Emergency Hospital in Bucharest
Prosecutors at the Bucharest Tribunal Prosecutor’s Office have informed the public that three witnesses, who are employees of the hospital, were interrogated on Friday. Additionally, medical documents concerning all 17 deceased patients in the Intensive Care Unit between April 4th and April 7th, 2024 have been obtained, along with other relevant records, as stated in a press release issued by the Prosecutor’s Office.
The prosecutors have specified that the acquired documents will be thoroughly examined in the upcoming period, and further witnesses will be called in for questioning. Judicial sources have indicated that the interrogations in this case will resume next week starting on Monday. The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that they are dispatching a Control Body to the “Sf. Pantelimon” Emergency Hospital in Bucharest following a report from a healthcare assistant alleging that 20 patients died due to the improper administration of a medication. Furthermore, the nursing director has claimed obstruction in carrying out her duties effectively.
The management of the “Sf. Pantelimon” Hospital in the capital has initiated an internal investigation following accusations that 20 patients in the Intensive Care Unit died within four days due to alleged decisions by some doctors to reduce the dosage of norepinephrine given to those in need of the medication.
An inquiry was initiated after an employee of the “Sf. Pantelimon” Hospital reported to the prosecutors on April 11th that “approximately 20 patients died between April 4th and April 7th, 2024, in the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit of the hospital as a result of the voluntary reduction of norepinephrine dosage by the medical staff – a neurotransmitter used to increase or maintain blood pressure.”
