FCSB reclaimed the SuperLiga title after a 9-year hiatus. The team owned by Gigi Becali secured the trophy mathematically at the end of the 7th round of the play-off, with a 2-1 victory against Farul. However, the derby against CFR Cluj was particularly special for the red-and-blue supporters.

The Professional Football League established that FCSB would receive the SuperLiga trophy and championship medals at the end of the Saturday night derby against CFR Cluj at the National Arena. The match against their arch-rivals was a moment of celebration for the red-and-blue fans.

A staggering 55,435 supporters attended the FCSB vs. CFR Cluj match at the National Arena. This sets a new attendance record at the country’s largest stadium. Thus, the clash between the Romanian champions and CFR Cluj surpassed a record held by the Romanian national team.

FCSB Breaks Romanian National Team’s Attendance Record at National Arena

The previous attendance record at the National Arena stood at 54,364 spectators during the Romania vs. Finland match in the EURO 2016 qualifiers, ending in a 1-1 draw. Regarding the Romanian league, the 50,000 attendance mark was surpassed only once.

It was in 2013, during the match between FCSB and FC Brasov, resulting in a 4-0 victory. An official number of 50,244 people filled the stands at the National Arena approximately 11 years ago. The red-and-blue supporters were celebrating the title won under the helm of Laurențiu Reghecampf.

Furthermore, FCSB recorded the highest attendance at the National Arena, with 50,655 spectators during the match against Legia Warsaw on August 21, 2013, in the Champions League qualifiers. The red-and-blue fans were remarkable and displayed a spectacular choreography.

Romania vs. Netherlands 1-4, Third Highest Attendance at National Arena

Following FCSB vs. CFR Cluj (55,435 supporters) and Romania vs. Finland (54,364 supporters), the third-highest attendance at the National Arena was registered during the Romania vs. Netherlands match with 53,329 spectators, ending in a 1-4 score on October 16, 2012.

After the final whistle of the FCSB vs. CFR Cluj derby, the entire technical staff of the Romanian champions stepped onto the field to celebrate. Additionally, Gigi Becali was pictured smiling in the stand from where he watched the match.
