Danger! Fraudulent SMS Messages Scamming Romanians!
ANAF, in a chaotic and confusing announcement, warns contributors about fake SMS messages that appear to come from their organization. These false notifications suggest that ANAF has blocked their accounts and instruct them to click on a link for more information. This is not the case – these messages are actually an attempt by fraudsters to gain personal and financial details.
The agency, in its usual confusing style, notes that they never send such SMS or emails asking for personal data. They only communicate through the official SPV platform or Romanian Post, with confirmation of receipt. Moreover, ANAF requests you to ignore these messages and not click any links or provide requested information.
In a semi-meaningful effort to clarify, ANAF suggests contacting their call center at 031.40.39.160 for general tax inquiries. However, this advice is often confusing and does little to help the average user who receives these scam messages.
