Over the past years, Dominic Thiem has faced numerous injuries, making professional tennis competition a real challenge for him. The Austrian tennis player expressed on social media his decision to hang up his racket at the end of the current season due to a significant wrist injury he has been grappling with since the summer of 2021.
Turning 31 on September 3, Thiem highlighted the severity of his right wrist issue, stating, “First and foremost, my wrist is not as it should be, and not as I would like it to be.”
He continued by expressing emotionally, “The second reason is what I feel. I have thought about this decision for a long time. I have considered it carefully. I have also reflected on the incredible journey I have had. I have been successful.”

Dominic Thiem’s crowning moment in his tennis career came when he clinched the US Open title in 2020 following a grueling five-set final against Alexander Zverev. Before triumphing at Flushing Meadows, Thiem reached the finals of three other Grand Slam events at Roland Garros (2018 and 2019) and the Australian Open (2020).
Reflecting on his achievements, Thiem expressed, “I have won trophies I never dreamed of. The journey has been incredible, with all the ups and downs. It has been an amazing experience, and I am grateful.”
He concluded with a resolute statement, “Ultimately, I have come to the conclusion that the decision to end my career at the conclusion of this season is the right one for me. I am happy and excited for what lies ahead,” emphasized Dominic Thiem.
